Does anyone know if it's ok to use a tanning salon when pregnant?

don't!!!!!! there are too many harmful uva/uvb rays and that is not only unhealthy for you, but also the fetus!

Does anyone know if it's ok to use a tanning salon when pregnant?
You cant tan when your pregnant you can ask the tanning salon people and they will tell you it causes birthdefects...
Reply:defintaly NOT ok!
Reply:It's not a good idea. If you just have to tan, use the self-tanning lotions, that's what I did when I was pregnant.
Reply:no itis not u can stick you rlegs in that is it...kindof like a gaint microwave... it a big no no
Reply:its advised u dont due 2 the chemicals that they use
Reply:NO!!!! It's not. Sorry tanning is out. self tans that come in a bottle are not recomended either. I know it sucks, i was disappointed too when I was preggo.
Reply:No way, the tan thins your skin and the baby will kick right through your belly. Hehehe. Just kidding!! , I don't know.
Reply:well im black so i dont go to these things but i dont think that is safe because of the radiation that goes on so i wouldnt but ask your dr.
Reply:I consulted my doctor about this when I was pregnant. He said that it was fine and would not harm the baby. The only catch is: You are not supposed to lie on your back when you are in the later stages of pregnancy (past 5 months or so) therefor, my doc recommended that I use a stand up tanning bed or go for very short intervals in a lie down bed. ALSO: Warning....Tanning tightens the skin and in my case the tanning made my stretch marks much darker and more noticeable because the tanning tightens the skin and makes it more difficult to stretch=therefor causing more stretch marks!

WEB MD ALSO SAYS IT IS OK, but they do not recommend using self tanners because of the chemicals....

IT DOES NOT CAUSE BIRTH DEFECTS PEOPLE%26lt; DO SOME RESEARCH
Reply:Tanning Beds are Big No-no's while pregnant. Lay out in the sun, or use a lotion.
Reply:Defiantly not. Tanning contains harmful UV rays plus the heat is harmful to the fetus.Think about it when your pregnant your doctors advises you not to get in to a hot bath or hot tub. Do you think a tanning bed is any cooler? The weather is getting nice go to a beach or a friends pool and use a low spf sunscreen. I have heard that spray on tans are ok but I am not 100% sure. Ask your doc on those.
Reply:Yeah, don't. I wouldn't use lotions either with all the chemicals in them. It's just a few months, take care of your baby.
Reply:no , unless you want to cook your baby.

Why would you want to use a tanning bed anyway??

You should be getting sun through shaded area for about 30 minutes a day and no more while you are pregnant. Even if you're not, It's a very bad thing for your body. Don't use a tanning bed , ever, please!!!!
Reply:I was told no tanning beds due to the fact that the baby is not able to regulate it's own body temp. which means it depends on you to not get too hot for extended periods of time. If the baby gets too hot for too long and can increase the chances of birth defects and being born mentally challenged. That also goes for tanning outside or being too hot for too long, just watch you body temp, cause your baby is depending on you. Oh and on that fact, if you start to run a fever while pregnant make sure you get a hold of your Dr. (FYI)
Reply:No, it's not safe! Definitely don't do it. You will be able to do all the tanning you want after your baby is born, so be patient. :)
Reply:As an OB nurse for 10 years I would highly recommend against using the tanning bed while pregnant. Not only can it dehydrate you due to the heat (dehydration can cause uterine irritability/contractions), but UV rays are a known cancer causing agent. You may not find any research that can unequivocally prove tanning beds are harmful, but that is probably because it would be unethical to perform such a study. It is really unknown what these tanning bed UV rays can do to a person, especially a fetus, long term. They do emit radiation, although it is a small amount. Pregnant women have to be careful when getting xray's during pregnancy because the exposure to radiation can put their baby at risk for leukemia later on. I know it is hard on a woman to gain weight and have her appearance affected during pregnancy, but you really need to consider the unknown consequences here and protect your baby.

P.S.- a little sunshine right now may be a better alternative
Reply:They say it's not ok but you can tan outside
Reply:umm... i would say no.
